Start with things you would actually enjoy
A useful gift list does not have to be long. A book you want to read, a mug you keep returning to and headphones you have been considering give friends a starting point without making them guess.
Save products from different shops and include a few price ranges. A collection can be your birthday wishlist, holiday ideas or a shared shortlist of things for your home. Choose a name that makes the occasion clear.
Build and share a collection
In WantLoom, collections group your saved finds. Make a public collection when you want other people to open the list:
- Create a collection on your Finds page, name it for the occasion and choose public visibility.
- Save the product links you want to include, or add existing finds to the collection. Check that each link points to the product you mean.
- Open the collection menu and choose “Share” to copy or share its link.
- Send that link to the people asking for ideas. They can open the public collection without signing in and follow the product links to the shops.
Make your preferences easy to understand
For clothing or anything with variants, tell the person buying the gift your size, color or preferred version in the message accompanying the link. A shop URL does not always preserve those choices, and your personal notes in WantLoom are not visible to others.
Treat the list as a set of ideas. Prices and availability may change, and the person buying should confirm them in the shop. Coordinate who is buying what in your conversation; sharing a collection does not reserve its products.
Keep surprise gifts in a private collection
A wishlist for your own birthday and ideas for someone else’s surprise need different visibility. Use a private collection for the surprise and keep those products out of public collections.
A product is hidden only when it belongs exclusively to private collections. If the same find is also in a public collection, it remains visible. Public profiles and collections with finds can appear in search engines, so use private visibility for ideas you do not want to publish.
A few useful answers
Do friends need a WantLoom account to see the list?
No. A public collection can be opened without an account. A private collection is only visible to its owner and cannot be shared as a public gift list.
Can people reserve a gift or mark it as bought?
WantLoom does not currently offer gift reservations or a shared purchased status. Agree on who is buying each gift outside WantLoom to avoid duplicates.
Are my notes included in the shared collection?
No. Your notes and tags stay private. Include any size, color or delivery preferences in the message you send with the collection link.
